When should my child see the dentist?
We like to get kids started on the path to good oral health from an early age, which is why we recommend you bring in your children shortly after his or her first tooth erupts.
What is the goal of the first visit?
The first visit to the dentist is primarily to help your children grow accustomed to the sights and sounds of the dentist office. We want to ensure that they don’t fear the dentist. Dr. Brent Amaya and his team love treating children and setting them on the path to good oral health!
Good preventive care is key for children, so Dr. Amaya will talk to you about proper home care. Since kids lack the dexterity to brush their own teeth until about the age of six or so, he will go over tips to for parents to ensure brushing and flossing is done properly. He will also talk about healthy snacking and the importance of avoiding too many sugary snacks.
Dr. Amaya will talk about the possibility of additional preventive treatments, such as sealants and fluoride. Both of these affordable, noninvasive treatments can keep decay from forming in baby teeth.
